Common questions

Questions we get asked

Cost, subsidy, savings and installation, answered plainly.

How much does rooftop solar installation cost in Chennai?

Before subsidy, a 1 kW system costs about ₹72,000 to ₹1,02,000, a 3 kW system ₹1,98,000 to ₹2,28,000, a 5 kW system ₹3,04,500 to ₹3,34,500 and a 10 kW system ₹5,90,000 to ₹6,20,000. Where you land in the range depends on the panel brand, roof type and your site. Homes can get a PM Surya Ghar subsidy of up to ₹78,000, so a 3 kW system comes to about ₹1,20,000 to ₹1,50,000 after subsidy. We give an exact quote after a free site visit.

How much can I save on my EB bill with rooftop solar?

Most homes see the EB bill drop by 70 to 90%. A 3 kW system saves around ₹3,400 a month, so it pays back in roughly 3 to 4 years after subsidy. Panels last 25 years or more, so the savings carry on long after that.

What subsidy can I get for rooftop solar in Tamil Nadu?

Houses are eligible for the central PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana subsidy: about ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 (the maximum) for 3 kW and above. We confirm eligibility after the site visit, and we fill in the subsidy application and the net metering papers for you.

How much roof space do I need?

Plan on 80 to 100 sq.ft of shadow-free roof for each kW. That works out to about 250 to 300 sq.ft for 3 kW, 400 to 500 sq.ft for 5 kW and 800 to 1,000 sq.ft for 10 kW. We measure the usable area during the site visit.

Which areas do you install in?

We install across Chennai. Our office is at No:4, Solomon Street, Annai Theresa Nagar, East Tambaram, and our work is limited to Chennai.

Can I come to your office?

Yes. We are in East Tambaram and open Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM. The Google Maps pin is on our contact page.

How long does the installation take?

The physical installation takes a few days once the material reaches your site. The whole process, including approval from EB, usually takes a few weeks. The approval is the part we do not control, so that is where the timing changes the most.

Do solar panels work in the monsoon?

Yes, but they produce less on cloudy days. With net metering, the extra units you export in sunny months are adjusted against the monsoon months, so your yearly saving stays about the same. Rain also washes the dust off the panels.

What maintenance do solar panels need?

Not much. Wipe the dust off now and then and get the wiring, structure and inverter checked once a year. We offer after-sales service and annual maintenance contracts (AMC) that include checking the output.
